Tuesday 17th May – Writing in Colour – what’s your preferred medium: gouache, coloured pencils, Pilot pens with cartridges….?
A practical, interactive evening of methods/tips/tools. Bring your materials, a favourite book on the use of colour and share your experience with the group as we work together.
Tuesday 21st June – Scribes and the City -In this illustrated talk Tom Furber from the London Metropolitan Archives will tell the story of how clerks working for the Guildhall contributed to the growth of English as a literary language
Tuesday 19th July – Summer Party – Theme: as a follow-on from our May meeting of writing in colour, please bring a piece of work that inspires/pleases you, which might be some of your own work or in a book or a card. Also, please bring ‘finger’ food for about 8 people, savoury or sweet. Drinks will be provided.
Tuesday 20th September -Tom Perkins ‘40 Years of Letter Carving’
Tom is a well known letter-carver and lettering designer. His work is wide-ranging and includes public art commissions, large-scale signs for buildings, memorials, plaques, book jacket and logo design.

Tuesday October 18 – Practical evening – “Let’s get ready for Christmas!” – Use calligraphy to make Christmas items such as cards, tags, wrapping, bags, boxes. Come and share your ideas, show the group anything you’ve enjoyed making.
Tuesday 15th November – Ewan Clayton ‘Beyond Foundational: the unknown story of written romans’
For the last year and a half Ewan has been researching the tradition, continuing beyond the invention of printing, of calligraphers making hand written lower case roman letters. This lecture gives a detailed look at his on going research into breath-taking manuscripts from the court of Louis XIV at Versailles and the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
